Virtual communities are groups of people who share common interests and needs who come together online. Most are drawn by a sense of community with like-minded people - regardless of where they are.

I think that virtual communities will be come more and more important as we, as a culture, get more technologically advanced.  The world is already a “touch” away with the advent of the web, email, Skype and the like.  Someone can be miles away and still feel like they are just next door.

If communities have an issue that is of importance to them, a “virtual coming together” is an easy way of getting like-minded people together.  And there is the old adage of “A problem shared is a problem solved.“
